Vitold E. Pozhar, Doctor of Phys.-Math. Sciences. He graduated from Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology in 1981. Now he is head of the Acousto-optic Information System Department of the STC UI RAS, Professor of the Bauman Moscow State Technical University and Moscow Engineering Physics Institute. His research interests are acoustooptics, spectrometry, differential, modulation, adaptive spectroscopy, hyper spectrometry, remote sensing, and spectral instrument engineering

Vladimir A. Lomonov, Ph. D. in Chemical Sciences. He graduated from the Quantum Electronic Materials sub-department of D. Mendeleev University of Chemical Technology of Russia in 1972. At present, he is the senior research scientist at Crystallography and Photonics Federal Research Facility of the Russian Academy of Sciences. His research interests: crystal growing

Abstract:
The method of studying of dynamic diffraction gratings formed in acousto-optic devices is presented. Using a receiving scanning acoustic microscope, acousto-optic modulators of the same shape made of quartz glass and crystalline quartz were studied. Grating shape blurring effects and appearing of spurious gratings due to wave re-reflection were observed. It is shown that the grating structure demonstrates high correspondence to the theoretical shape in quartz glass whereas differences associated with material anisotropy are visible in crystalline quartz. The connection between the structure of dynamic gratings and characteristics of acousto-optic devices is discussed.
