Abstract:
This paper presents a systematic typological classification of artistic imagery across various art forms, considering the specifics of their creation and existence based on the five perceptual systems through which humans experience their environment. The primary systems in this context are vision and hearing. The arts are categorized into representational (visual-light-based imagery) and expressive (sound-auditory-based imagery), with some forms combining both into complex multisensory experiences. The study focuses in detail on the three-stage cognitive process of architectural image formation in the human mind – sensory, perceptual, and cognitive – under both daylighting and electrical lighting. This process transforms the initial (objective) light projection on the retina into a subjective, final architectural image in human consciousness and memory.
